VEFF II Occupational Health and Safety Programme

The Vocational Education and Employment Fund asked for occupational health and safety capability to be built across the technical and vocational training system, in the provinces, not in Vientiane. SSI delivered every workshop in the plan.

Case studies

What we did

  • Designed the workshop programme against the OHS capability the institutions actually lacked, not against a generic syllabus
  • Delivered fourteen workshops in eleven provinces, in Lao
  • Visited 75 sites to see the conditions the training was meant to change
  • Reported to DTVE against the contract, workshop by workshop

Why it matters

A programme delivered across eleven provinces is a different proposition from one delivered in a capital city. It is evidence that SSI can reach a workforce where it actually works, which is the question a ministry or a donor asks before it commissions anything at national scale.
